Upper School Technology Teacher (Coding, AI, and Digital Design)

Jackson Preparatory School in Flowood, MS seeks an Upper School Technology Teacher with expertise in coding, AI, and Digital Design.  The Technology Teacher will inspire and guide students in the essential skills of coding, artificial intelligence (AI) literacy, productivity software, and digital design.  The role involves developing and delivering a comprehensive, project-based curriculum that prepares students for a technology-driven world while fostering creativity, computational thinking, and ethical digital citizenship.

Key responsibilities

Curriculum and instruction

  • Design, plan, and implement engaging, project-based lessons in coding, AI, digital design, and productivity software.
    • Coding: Instruct students in fundamental coding principles and languages, such as Python, JavaScript, or block-based coding (e.g., Scratch).
    • Artificial Intelligence: Introduce students to core AI concepts and applications, such as machine learning, data processing, and ethical AI usage, through hands-on activities.
    • Digital Design: Teach digital design and visual communication skills using tools like Adobe and Canva, allowing students to create presentations, graphics, and interactive learning materials using tools such as Adobe and Canva.
    • Productivity Software: Teach students to effectively use productivity software, including word processing and spreadsheet, and support students in applying these tools to academic and real-world projects using tools such as Google Classroom and Microsoft office.
  • Incorporate AI-powered tools within the curriculum to aid in lesson planning, material creation, and providing interactive student experiences.
  • Design and manage project-based learning activities that challenge students to apply their knowledge and develop creative solutions to real-world problems.

Classroom management and environment

  • Create a safe, supportive, and organized classroom environment that encourages student exploration, innovation, and responsible technology use.
  • Effectively manage classroom resources, including hardware, software, and online platforms.
  • Implement and enforce safety procedures related to the use of technology and digital tools. 

Collaboration and professional development

  • Collaborate with other teachers to integrate technology across multiple subjects, enriching the broader curriculum.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, educational trends, and best practices in coding, AI, and digital design.through continuous professional development.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and school-wide initiatives. 

Required qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required.  Masters preferred.
  • Experience in curriculum development and instructional design.
  • Proficiency in coding and programming languages such as Python, Scratch, Java or JavaScript.
  • Experience with AI principles and tools, including generative AI applications for educational purposes.
  • Experience with graphic design software like Canva.
  • Proficiency in using productivity software such as word processing and spreadsheet.
  • Comfortable using and troubleshooting educational technology tools, learning management systems (LMS), and interactive hardware. 
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students with varying levels of experience.
